XX + XX is a poignant photo-study of graffiti carved on the birch trees in the Sackville Waterfowl Park. Starting with the most recent carvings and moving slowly towards the older, fainter ones, this handmade artist book explores the way love relationships are publicly expressed. The gradual healing of the trees, whose bark sometimes takes on the properties of human skin, becomes a metaphor for the artist’s personal experience transitioning. The work is itself an expression of love, both as a relationship with someone else and a form of self-affirmation.
